If I recall correctly, they both emulate similar (or the same?) Cirrus Logic SVGA card and I got some Sound Blaster audio working under both of them. Unlike VirtualBox, which I would not try it on, they both emulate older hardware.

If anyone wants some other emulation/virtualization options, I've run Windows 3.1 under Bochs and QEMU. Apologies if I am incorrectly recalling or misrepresenting their views here. Anyway I think the official line from the DOSbox developers is they only support games, not any other sorts of applications, so if they work they work, otherwise they aren't interested in hearing complaints. I do believe it's officially "unsupported" but then I've used lots of emulators that don't really claim to run any particular software properly, they just say what hardware they emulate, so I wouldn't worry too much about whether it's supported or not.
